when removing my trunk medallion from C56B1917 I found that the plastic insert piece appears retained by a metal shield riveted in place. I removed one of these on another MKII C56A1773 and the plastic piece was directly accessible with no plate. I guess I need to drill off the heads?....or chisel them upright and try to re-peen them? any advice?

Keith,
If you do a search, I think there is a thread on this. I think people drill and tap holes in the studs to reinstall and use screws to hold the metal shield and insert in place.

Hello Larry, John,
Thanks much for this advice and the link to the prior postings. I tried to search, but didn't come up with anything.
And although I re-sponsored (only bronze) I find there are some features not accessible to me. I tried to attach photos and got a error message that "I have exceeded my quota". I reduced the size of the image....and got the same error message. I tried to email Shelly and got a message that the feature was "disabled".
The reason I wanted to remove the plastic medallion was to gain better access to the spring for the knight's head. Instead of drilling out the swaged rivets,I worked around that. I made a tool to twist and push the spring back onto the post of the knight's head. I took a dowel smaller than the spring coil diameter, cut a notch in it, captured the spring end and pushed it down onto the post. I wish I could post the picture. It's been 60 hours since I renewed my sponsorship...I'll try again after the holiday

I always see them on ePay all the time after I purchased one or more years ago thinking they were a rare item. And then there was the debate on repop vs NOS with members saying they were repop but the ones I purchased match my original in every way.
