This is a rare mark ii continental they only made 1900 to compete with Roll Royce. Car is in excellent mechanical condition - just installed modern air conditioning, exhaust, and serviced. It has been in my collection for about ten years. We have a private mechanic so anything the cars need I always get. The paint is very good except for a couple small areas of cracked lacquer. The interior seats have also been redone. just ask for additional pics or more information the car is a solid running car.I have got videos as well just pm me. All offers considered.
I just listed this in Facebook marketplace. I’ve owned this car for about eight years just just put in my private collection. It is an excellent mechanical condition we just installed modern air conditioning, new exhaust, master cylinder, tuneup, it has an Edelbrock carburetor getting rid of the old teapot. The interior sheets have also been redone. The pain is in good condition except for two small crack Areas in the lacquer. We have our own private mechanics so whatever the cars need they get. Hi all:
After over 40 years of car collecting restoring and enjoying, I?ve finally hit the pinnacle and purchased a Mark II
(#3077). This has been a dream of mine since I was 8 years old. It?s a very nice example and runs fantastic. But as with any 65 year old needs some odds and ends. Can someone direct me to the proper manual that helps describe the disassembly of parts of the interior? I have the technical manual but it really does not address the interior. I need to replace a driver door window switch and wish to to it right. Do I need to remove the door panel to remove the chrome surround? Thanks all

You can remove the switch housings without damaging them using a pick. The pictures show the switch housing and if you look at the space between the left and center switch you can just see the hole that the tab on the retaining tab fits into. I work the pick between the switches and depress the tab, pull it up (a bit at a time) until the tab clears the hole. once that is done on both sides the switch will slide out. Watch the clips as they tend to fly off and if you lose them they are hard to find.

Arthur DiFabbio of Naugatuck has been collecting classic cars for more than four decades. His first car was a 1969 Lincoln Continental Mark III luxury model and he?s owned more than 150 cars over that span. He currently owns eight classic cars, including a 1959 Jaguar Mark IX from England, a 1961 Renault Dauphine from France and another 1969 Lincoln Continental Mark III that he rented out for use in the 2007 motion picture ?American Gangster,? starring Denzel Washington and Russell Crowe.

?I?ve been interested in cars since I was 5, 6 years old. I used to send post cards ? they were four cents each I remember ? to the three major companies (Ford, Chrysler and General Motors) and I?d get all their next year?s literature. Always in the fall I?d do it,? he recalled recently.

Back in April, DiFabbio realized a life-long dream when he secured a rare 1956 Continental Mark II from a collector in Delaware.

?It is not a Lincoln. It is a Continental. It was Ford?s attempt to make the world?s greatest car,? he said. ?This was the epitome of ?50s luxury.?

Ford launched Continental as an ultra-luxury division separate from the Lincoln, Edsel, Mercury and Ford. It only made its two-door coupe for two years (1956 and 1957). The Mark II came with a 368-cubic-inch V8 engine with three-speed automatic transmission.

?It was all hand built. These cars were custom made in a factory that was only done to create these cars. They?re hand made,? said DiFabbio. ?They made just under 3,000 ? 2,300 in ?56 and 400 in ?57 and that was it.?

The Mark II came with a high price tag of just under $10,000 ?and supposedly Ford lost $1,000 on each car. In today?s dollars, that?s like $100,000. A Cadillac cost about $5,500 in ?56, and Lincoln, but a Continental was 10 grand, so that?s why there wasn?t many made,? he said, adding that Frank Sinatra had one. The car was featured in the 1956 movie ?High Society,? which starred Sinatra, Bing Crosby and Grace Kelly.

In appearance, the Mark II is both hefty and plush. ?It drives like a ?50s car,? said DiFabbio, laughing. ?It?s big. It?s heavy. The brakes are very sticky because they?re just drums, and it?s trying to stop 5,200 pounds? But it?s smooth and it?s got plenty of acceleration, and it steers fine. I was surprised when I first started driving it that it holds the road pretty well.?

The Mark II was in ?really nice shape? when he got it. DiFabbio said he made the deal ?for decent money. It wasn?t 100 grand or 80 grand.?

The previous owner ?actually had an on-site mechanic and that?s why the car is in such good running order.?

The car has power steering, power brakes, power windows, power seats and leather seats? the Bridge of Weir leather imported from Scotland.

?The gas cap is hidden behind the tail light, which was a big ?50s thing. A lot of cars had them. This car has that. It has air conditioning but the evaporator for the air conditioning is in the trunk. It shoots the air, the cold air, through the roof vents, which is kind of unique. I don?t think any other car does that,? DiFabbio said.

The Continental Mark II is certainly the flagship of DiFabbio?s fleet of classic cars, which also includes a 1970 Ford Thunderbird, a 1969 Mercury Montego convertible, a 1984 Lincoln Continental Mark VII and a 1993 Cadillac Allant?.

In addition to the classic cars, DiFabbio and his wife, Bernadette, have three everyday drivers. His wife actually has two cars ? a two-seat 2002 Ford Thunderbird ?summer car? and a 2020 Ford Mustang. DiFabbio?s regular ride is 2018 Lincoln Navigator.

The Mark II certainly stands out. ?I look at it as a work of art. I kind of sit in the garage and sometimes just stare at it and look at how they designed the thing. The design was the key. If you look at the turn signal bezels here, set into the bumpers, it emulates it from the exhaust coming out the back end. They?re almost identical, but it?s stuff like that. You look at it and you go, geez, they did a perfect job,? he said.

That he yearned for a Mark II and constantly marvels at the model is completely understandable.

?It?s so elegant,? he said. ?To me, it?s gorgeous.?

Never saw this until tonight. Thanks so much Pat. I now have a fairly complete history of my car. It just so happens I?ve been working on those ?odds and ends? the last month or so. (4 years later) I repaired a broken fuse holder for the blower, removed the hideous after market rear speakers, that were in the rear shelf, got power seat moving again, installed the S shaped exhaust tips so exhaust exits the bumper, etc. it?s a great car. Paint is really still very nice. Maybe not a 6 footer, but after extended paint correction, maybe a 4 footer. I love owning it.34377343783437934379
