Sorry Guys, I meant to type Right Hand Drive. :-(

Just found this on EBAY too. Slight correction, the car is Right Hand Drive not LHD.

I don't believe we have this one in the Registry. Here are the cars we show in Australia - all appear to be left hand drive.

Also, believed to have been shipped to Australia 2012-Not documented

Since this car is right hand drive, it would have had to have been shipped new from the factory that way and would have been shipped to a left-side-of-the-road driving country. So far I haven't found such an animal. Still checking!

Unfortunately, the owner didn't include the VIN.

The owner responded that it is chassis C56D2632. He offered no further information about RHD or history but indicated he will be joining the Forum.

The History doesn't show a factory conversion.

Matthew, welcome to the Forum. It's really great to find another car that has been unheard from for many years.

Your car was manufactured as a left-hand drive car. There is no record that Continental ever made a right-hand drive Mark II. It was shipped to Lee Moran's dealership in Seattle, Washington and, until now, that's the last that was known about it.

Here is the link to your car's history in our Forum Registry. I have not yet revised it with this new information. I'll be doing that shortly.

Possibly you can give us a little more:
* No you have any information about the original owner and how and when it got from Seattle to Australia?
* Could you give us the complete spec code on the data plate? - all we have is 01-1F6M
* What information is on the carpet hump plate?

Once again, welcome to the Forum. Your car is really fascinating.

Hi Pat, thank you for the warm welcome and some history on my Markii. I feel I know so little about these beautiful motor cars compared to other forum members. It is amazing reading the posts and the knowledge that is here.

I have some more identifying numbers you may find helpful. They are,

Body Specif 01-1F6M-201-14
Style - TT-60A

If you could please excuse my ignorance as I have to ask, what is the carpet hump? I think I may know but could you please confirm.

Regards
Matthew

Matthew,

It's in the center of the floor, between the driver and passenger. Right below the heater controls, there should be a gold plate with the word Continental attached to the carpet. If the car was special ordered by a customer, they engraved his name on this plate below the word Continental. Is there a name on your plate?

Also, between the brake booster and the battery tray, there is a metal tag attached to the firewall. The number on this tag is your body number.

If you can supply Pat with these two things, he will include them in the page that shows your car's specifications.

Thanks!

The first picture is a close-up from one that is in your EBAY ad. It almost looks like there is an owner's name engraved below the "Continental" but when I enlarge it the detail is lost.

Also, here's a link to our FAQ section which will explain where to find all the information and a lot more.

I have updated the history of 2632 with what we have so far. Places where we need more information are identified with ????. Hopefully you will be able to help us with that.

Nick, thank you for clarifying. Unfortunately there is no name engraved.

Some history on the vehicle that I hope also helps. My father remembers it arriving at the authorised Ford dealership, Lawford and Hilderbrandt, he was doing his motor mechanics apprenticeship at. He was 15 or 16 years old at the time. He is now 71, closer to 72. The vehicle was wrapped and left hand drive.

The customer had specifically requested a black exterior and a burgundy and white interior, apparently not a common colour combination? It may have been that one had to be found and it may have been that it was found at the Lee Marine Dealership in Seattle, Washington, purchased and shipped to Sydney.

Matthew

Matthew, thanks for the additional information.

Lawford & Hildebrandt did not purchase the car from the Ford Motor Co. If Ford has sold the car to them there 1) would have been an invoice and 2) the car would have been processed as a car for export.

Undoubtedly Lawford & Hildebrandt purchased the car directly from Lee Moran. Since Lee Moran's invoice did not specify a customer name, Moran undoubtedly purchased the car to fill their inventory. There's no way of knowing how Moran and Lawford & Hildebrandt got hooked up.

As far as the color/interior combination, 01-1F6M far from being a rare configuration, it was the most popular one!

Thanks for the nameplate information. All we need know is the engine number and the body tag number (if there is one), and of course the name of the original owner!

I've updated the History with the most recent information and an assumption here and there.

Matthew, would you check your engine number again? It looks to me like it should be 1650.

The difference in this VIN sequence should be 982 - Nearby examples:
VIN ENG DIFF
2591 1609 982
2593 1611 982
2636 1654 982
2642 1660 982
2649 1667 982

YOURS IS:
2632 1660 972

PLUS ENGINE #1660 was put in #2642

However 2642 was parted out in Virginia a long time ago, so we don't actually know what happened to engine number 1660. Stranger things have happened, but not many!
