Searching for Mark II A/C Compressor Repair

I have tried searching a/c repair, ac compressor and nothing comes up at all. I must be doing something wrong because I can?t believe in that many posts, no one has ever discussed the Mark II ac system. I have been doing some research and have found that the company that used to rebuild the a/c compressor no longer does it. I have also found that I can use a different compressor, but that I might need to make a new bracket to mount it. I was just wondering if anyone in here has tackled repairing the factory a/c system in these cars. I would really like to figure it out.

I just wrote a whole long answer and the page ate it. It was all about the wax motor in the air cleaner diverter causing hot running engines. None of the text was restorable.

Jim Casilio, could you give everyone an update on fixing the Forum's Search function? Many members are having problems with searching (including me).

Robert Mills, there are a number of posts in our Technical Forum regarding the Mark II A/C system. Unfortunately the Forum's Search Engine is malfunctioning. I have talked to our Co-Administrator about that and he is actively working to get it fixed. Jim will be giving us an update on this.

Barry Wolk I have felt your pain! Over the years (not just now) I have lost postings that I have entered on the Forum. To eliminate that frustration, I always enter lengthy postings into Excel or Word and then copy them into the Forum.

Robert Mills - if you want technical information and the Search function is not available, there is a "Work-Around". Go to the Technical Forum. Most of the postings in the Technical Forum are in alphabetical order by subject. So, if you click on the word "Title" in the phrase "Title / Thread Starter" the contents will be arranged in Numeric/Alphabetic order. You will then see that the A/C postings start appearing on the first page.

I have learned that lesson, but now I'm officially old, and I forget to do the most basic things. Also, my posts tend to run long. I'll try and recreate my thoughts and post a new thread on the wax motors found in a cooling thermostat and in the device in the air cleaner snorkel that opens the hot air damper that speeds cold weather warm up time.

To All Forum Members
The problems with the Forum's search feature continue.
It is a recent problem and we are working to get this resolved.
Until we do Pat's work around noted below may help.
We will let everyone know when this is cleared up

(this should also work in the general discussion forum)

If you can't get to a car's VIN by using the Search Function, you can do it by going to our "Official" Mark II History--Registry" Forum. Once there, calculate the approximate page number where your target car's history is located by subtracting 1000 from the VIN and dividing that by 20.5 Enter that number in the field "Page 1 of 145". That will take you to a page that is very close to where your target VIN's history is located.

Example, search for Elvis Presley's #3286. Subtract 1,000 from the Vin = 2286. Divide that by 20.5 = 111.5. Page 111 will be the location of, or very close to, the Presley car's history.

It's a bit clanky, but a temporary thing...hopefully.

I know how y?all feel now, I typed a whole response and lost all of it! Thanks everyone for the help! My Continental was delivered today, I have never driven anything this old and I am a nervous wreck. The company I bought the car from rebuilt the carburetor, but when I press the gas pedal, there is a hesitation. Is that normal? Like I said I have never driven anything this old. Can?t wait to get to know all of you and be apart of this group!

There is a pump in the carb that gives a spritz every time you hit the pedal. It’s the accelerator pump. They tend to curl up when they come in contact with alcohol in gas. The solution is to install one made for modern fuel.

I too have learned that lesson. I still compose inside the forum but before I post it I copy and paste it into Notepad and recently in MS OneNote (making it searchable) on my PC. Then if it gets lost, I copy it back into the forum. I thought my posts often disappeared because I took so long to compose my post/reply at times that the forum logged me out before I posted since I was often asked to log in after pressing the post button. I do get a pop-up from time to time that says it is autosaved but I haven't figured out how to consistently find the autosaved text.

Terry, that has happened to me quite a few times. So, there must be a timer on the posting activity. I'll investigate to see if that can be adjusted.

That remains an annoying problem and personally, not having it makes doing car Histories difficult. Jim Casilio has been working on many things but is moving the search issue to the top of his priority list. We anticipate getting this corrected very soon.
