I have coveted one of these sets for 10 years, but was never able to justify buying one until my hand got too jittery to cut gaskets with a knife, and, even at my best it was always difficult to make gaskets exactly round. This set is about $500 new, but I found one missing a couple of dies for $175.00, used. Two replacement dies were $60. It uses multiple punches to simultaneously cut the OD and ID, by using a hammer or press.

I've already made a cork gas tank drain gasket, the inner hole for the new gas tank sending unit gasket, 2 drive shaft spline seals and the inner hole of the sediment bowl seal. I'll buy the larger dies as needed.

If you're in a bind and need a round gasket 2 inches in OD, or less, I can probably get one out the door in an envelope for a $10 donation to Mittens for Detroit.com, my favorite charity.

I made 2 1/8" thick seals for the drive shaft spline. I split them and installed the splits 180 degrees off.

The punch allowed me to experiment with different materials to seal the gas tank drain. The copper washers I found were too little surface area. Two sheets of fuel resistance Viton bunched up, but 1/8" thick might have worked. I settled on 1/8" cork lubricated on installation with a sealant. The parts book gives it a number and then says that it should be sourced locally. I think if it was a crush washer it would have been harder to source locally.

The split driveshaft spline seal looked to originally be cork. If this seal is working properly grease will come out the relief hole on the other side of the yolk, making a big mess when you put the car back on the ground and extra grease in the void gets pushed out the relief hole and flung in the drive shaft tunnel.
