As discussed in a prior - Now disappeared - thread, MK II Enterprises says that they can no longer get the engine paint.

My son did some searching and found a possible source, so, I ordered a can and will give a report as soon as I get it.

It certainly looks similar so fingers crossed though the "continental" in this case refers to the aero engine manufacturer.

I still have a couple of cans of the MKII Enterprises paint ...happy to send a painted card sample to compare to this one.

I just had some mixed off an engine part. It was very close. When he added the fine metal flake he packaged it in 3 spray bombs. I used every bit of it. With some fairly expensive etching primer it was under $100.00.

Just as a point of interest when I stripped the paint off the engine I saw a layer of military green primer. I wonder if that's what added to the greenish hue.

I think Finishmaster might be a national firm, but won't ship pressurized cans.

I wish Bill Hirsch would jump on this. I have always been more than satisfied with all of their other engine enamels.

The last can I got from MKIIE was very tan/silver and substantially different than prior product from them (although the same can). I bought it last August. Yesterday I called MKIIE and was told that their source was gone and they couldn't find anyone who could match it. I said, "then you're out of the Mark II paint business?" She responded, "Yes!"

Well, I got the paint and it's really, really close. The first photo is my engine with the "Continental Gold" paint, the second is a photo of Holger's engine. I'm going with it.

Here are pictures of the can.

Continental was (among other things) an aircraft engine manufacturer. These colors are so close, I can't believe it's sheer coincidence. I'm wondering if Ford Continental liked the Continental aircraft engine color and used it.

My '33 Continental and the '30 Ruxton I sent to Pebble Beach both had green engines as did every other Continental engine I've worked on. They sold engines to over 200 manufacturers of cars plus makers of pumps and generators and big in marine, but I've never seen a gold engine.

Great find!

I see why. I never worked on an airplane engine.

Mark, I would appreciate that. Thanks!

No problem Pat, pm me with your postal address and I'll prep one when I get home on Friday. I'll send a second card with just the primer base on it then you can make a card with the new source and compare the two shades apples-for-apples ..especially as you bend the cards to see how they change with light direction.

Please post a picture of the comparison.

PS. note Holger's engine isn't MK2 Ent. paint, he used a very close color he found in Europe.

Pat, thanks for the lead. I just ordered a can to touch up my recently painted engine. I'll post how it compares.

I'm struggling to find the right shade of Continental gold engine paint. Mark II Enterprises seems to be out of the paint business, due to their supplier. The other brand, Tempo listed above is NLA, the close match or recommended Continental gold replacement from the website site is not even close.

Has anyone tied this paint? SEYMOUR PAINT Hi-Tech Engine Paints Universal Gold EN-50?

The car will not be a 100-point restoration but want it to be as close as possible.

I simply had some spray bombs made locally.

I had for my Packard as well, but I'm trying to avoid the labor to try and match perfectly.

Last perfect match (as perfect as possible for a NLA, non-cataloged paint) for less than 10 oz was about $700 which in my mind is a fair amount for a body color with that many spray outs to get to the match.

I don't trust that I can scan the "true" existing color to even have a foundation, so I see a like bill, with limited results, which I'm trying to avoid.

Would you be willing to share the mix that your shop came up with showing the colors/percentages to create the engine paint?

There is no formula. It was mixed by eye.
