What is known about this car?

https://hosting.photobucket.com/images/gg18/barry2952/20211222_125006.jpg

Looks like a Thunderbird exhaust damper that won't work in that position. It's clearly a '57. I wonder if it was made from a new car?

https://hosting.photobucket.com/images/gg18/barry2952/20211222_125113.jpg

Definitely looks like Derham script.

https://hosting.photobucket.com/images/gg18/barry2952/20211222_125029.jpg

What is that color?

https://hosting.photobucket.com/images/gg18/barry2952/20211222_125039.jpg

Those tail lights, that roofline. Looks like the vortex behind that window would suck it right out of the frame.

https://hosting.photobucket.com/images/gg18/barry2952/20211222_125054.jpg

Would love to see how they did the window mechanism.

https://hosting.photobucket.com/images/gg18/barry2952/20211222_125018.jpg

The potential buyer is asking for the serial number.

I don't believe it has been advertised. My friend is chasing it.

Color looks as if it might be: D21- Tan Iridescent
But the rims appear black which is unusual; so the factory color could have been black. We need more pics.

I’d say it’s whatever color that is under the hood.

The only other Derham badged car that I have found in my data bases is 1193. The car was originally black and then later dark green with a vinyl top.

24379

This was a J.C. Daniels' auction car.

Our registry history has a great deal on 1193. This car had the Continental hump.

Says “diverted from service” according to our records. Very interesting car!

To my eye, it looks kind of crudely done. Derham cars, even if they were ugly, were done in a workmanlike manner. I am suspecting a fake that somebody put a Derham script on.

I suspect you have no proof for your assertion. What, specifically, was crudely done that makes you cast dispersions on its origins? I see exactly the opposite. When compared to the diving platform Derham with the small rear window and shaved trunk I’d say they were done in the same shop. While not pretty at all I see no reason at all to call it a fake.

I've written to the Director of the Gilmore Museum, in possession of the Derham Body records, for confirmation or denial, that it was a Derham project. I think we should await their response before labeling it a fake. That assertion can make a custom Mark II owner's life miserable, I assure you.

IDK, the shape and size of the rear window, lack of quarter windows, shaved trunk hump and build quality look pretty similar to me.

The car was in Company Service for only two months. This was late in the run, so I'm not thinking it was in Service as a company executive or sales car for that time, and I doubt it was sent to an auto show.

I've checked the Forum and LCOC records and did a Web search and have found nothing, sp, I'm looking forward to additional information from Barry.

Could CM be a credit memo?

Please explain how there are two invoices for the same car.

The Derham records have been digitized. I asked to gain access to their files. I'm also curios what happened to the other two convertible tubs sent by Ford.

Yes, I agree that it wasn't built as a show car that late in the game. What month did production stop? Did I ever post about the letter I found asking what to do with the last 3 bodies from Owosso?

More than two invoices was not uncommon. This happened when cars were sent to a sales office for display at a car show, hotel lobby, sales meeting or other venue. Typically an invoice was issued to a sales office and then after the event a 2nd invoice was issued to a dealer who would then sell the car.

This happened when a car was assigned to an executive for a short period and then was sent to a dealer. This also happened when a car was re-assigned to a 2nd dealer after the 1st invoice was issued.

I believe all of the international sales had 2 invoices. The first was from FoMoCo to the overseas Ford entity buying that car and the 2nd was by the overseas entity to the off-shore dealer or customer.

I GOT IT, I GOT IT!

It is a Derham Conversion!

In 1973 Buddy Holiday reported this in his CMOA magazine - CMOA 1983 Vol 7, No. 1 - "Does anyone have any information on this Mark II? This is an ad that I picked up somewhere, probably around 1971-72...This ad is the only information I have ever had on the car as I have never heard of it before or after"
FORUM NOTE: The following is the text for this advertisement. 1957 ALTERED MARK II Lincoln, over $9,000.00 alteration made by Derham Body shop, Rosemont, Pennsylvania. Alteration made to rear and to interior, two passenger instead of four. Light tan, factory air, full power, motor and body in excellent condition. Price is $4,000.00 firm. Donald Early, 233 Ann Street, Staunton, Virginia 24401. Phone 703-886-4176.

24408

It was displayed at the Gilmore in 1995 at a Derham Exhibit and reported in the Gilmore CCCA Museum Herald, Vol VI, No 2, Summer 1995. "Custom Lincolns by Derham Exhibit - "#1002 (Gilmore ID Code) 1956 Continental with special vent wings built for Frank Thomas of Texas. Thomas' Continental rear view showing recessed rear window and "wind-creased body contours. Note special rear tail light pods."

It was made by Derham, but in 1959, not 1957. That's a distinction with a difference to some. I see it as a coach-built oddity that has no connection to Ford, at all. But, it is a coach-built oddity, and that seems to do OK at Concours. My friend's pockets are not deep enough to want another Mark II restoration under his belt so he was thinking about flipping it, but the in was too high. This car needs everything. I'm in a position to do it, but I don't know that I have it in me.

Sure, great filler cap, for a tractor.

I'm not seeing much hack work, just a bunch of incongruent design. At least it doesn't have a Continental kit.

https://hosting.photobucket.com/images/gg18/barry2952/20170930_085304.jpg

The bean bag ash tray on the console says it all.

https://hosting.photobucket.com/images/gg18/barry2952/20170317_152132.jpeg

What were they thinking? Maybe in black it would be better.

It looks like it's all there.
