    Default gas cap

The gas cap on my 56 is very loose when I put it on.
1- Is this a vented or no vented cap?
2- A Ford friend of mine tells me that most of the gas caps from the 50 to the late 60 are the same. Does anyone know if this is true.
    Thanks again

All the Marks I have had, the cap was snug. The gas tank is vented with about 6 pieces of metal tubing and T connections.

No I have not. I always use what is on the car, or whatever fits. I never do a car for points, in shows, so it does not matter to me. Maybe any Ford cap from the 50,s?

The Gas Cap has a Part Number of 4047516 for the non locking type. The accessory locking cap (never have seen one of these) is 4050147. The 404 prefix means a continental specific part. Both are non-vented.

Thanks for this info. I had either forgotten the 404 or never knew it. Helpful info. Thanks. John

I recently, at long last, acquired a Mark II. Some how managed to lose the fuel cap the first time I put fuel in it, doing exactly as the owners manual shows to do. Does anyone know where I can get a correct or compatible fuel cap? All the ones I have found have the "ears" too shallow to engage the filler neck.
