I have detailed and painted a couple of my engine blocks while in the engine using an artists brush. I took my jack to a paintshop for a match. It's the same color paint as the engine. They used a high temp acrylic enamel which was solvent proof. There was no reason to remove my engine so a spray can simply would not work with all the accessories mounted, etc.. If you do this though, be sure you remove any grease with a small brush, then spray/brush with brake cleaner (wear googles when the car is on a lift) and then spray again with automotive prepaint grease and fingerprint removing solvent. If you do not get this very clean, the grease will discolor the gold eventually.
