I believe there was a fourth all black car (01-1P11N). Chassis 3508 was shipped to Bob Kelly Inc. Norristown PA and also has no known history.

One interesting thing is that her picture is with a black Mark, but the winery that had/has her car has a white Mark on their wine label?!

    Default Doris Day Picture Location

Not being one to leave anything alone. I looked more closely at the D.D. photo, especially the discoloration (mold?) at the top of the wall in the carport. Thinking that a professional movie still photograph would never have such an ugly distraction, I figured it might be a casual photo.

So, I searched for "Doris Day House" hoping to get a match with the house in the D.D. picture. I didn't get one for Doris Day, but I did for songwriter Ray Evans' hours. Evans wrote at least two D.D. songs, and if not friends they were associates.

    Could be the place!

After looking up the winery I ordered a few bottles online (not too far from here).
Arrived on Friday, I haven't tried the wine but it's a gorgeous label.

Can't you go pick the wine up....and....and....and get the VIN?

You're not alone...I also ordered some. Came earlier this week. Looks great; I hope the wine lives up to the label. I suspect they're having a run right now; seems like Pat should be getting a commission.

It's only about an hour away and would make a great day out. Might do that next weekend. Good idea!

    Default It's #3443!

I talked to the Mr. Guinn the curator of the DeRose winery's automobile collection. The car is #3443 and still in the original White exterior with Black & White interior configuration. It's definitely not the (01 1P11N) car in the Doris Day/Mark II photo. 3443 car was originally sold to Eisele Sales in LA, with Horace Eisele, listed as the Customer. Until now we had no other ownership information.

This car was purchased years ago by the late Alfonse DeRose, uncle of the current owner. The museum has no prior ownership documentation, but "Uncle Al" did remove a nameplate from the car that said "Doris Day". That nameplate has become lost, consequently. there is no nameplate on the transmission hump carpet.

Chuck, if you want to see the car, the museum is open one Saturday a month, the next time will be April 6th. I told Mr, Guinn that you might be looking him up, he is looking forward to showing you the car.

    Default 01-1p11n

I have an adjustment on the all black Mark IIs that were produced. There were 4 and the dealers were:

C56N3508 Bob Kelly, Inc. Norristown, Pennsylvania, Customer: None Named
C56P3562 J.E. Coberly, Inc., Los Angeles, California, Customer: None Named
C56R3759 J.E. Coberly, Inc., Los Angeles, California, Customer: None Named
C56S3842 Marlin Motors Co., Camden, New Jersey, Customer: None Named

So, if Doris was pictured in a new 01-1P11N Mark II in California, it was either 3562 or 3759, the other 2 were a continent away.

    Default I have my doubts....

Unitl some further evidence turns up that Doris owned a white Mark II I think it's still an open question as to which car she owned, if any. Too bad Uncle Al removed the nameplate, if that is true.
