    Default V-belt specs

    The V-belt MIIE sends is 47.51" and it won't snug up, at all. The parts book calls for 2 belts 46.25" long. Anyone have a product number for a belt available today?

    3186 (non-A/C) is fitted with;

    2 x Gates XL 9463 (1/2" x 46-3/8") Green Stripe

    I understand the 9463 is the important data ...the rest is variations (they also do a heavy duty version, HD)

    They fit perfectly and are standard Gates items. I got them from RockAuto;

    Mark, with that belt where does the tab end up on the adjustment bar?

    Using these belts the generator housing locking bolt/lug is about half way along the adjustment bar;

    I told Jack the belts he sent were too long Gates #7470 11A1195. I told him they were about 3" too long. He quickly replced them with a Delco 17455 at just about 44". That's about 3.5" shorter. They were a little snug going on, but when stretched tight they snug up able the same place your belt do on the bar.

    Now, here's the weird thing. My '56 with the '57 engine uses the longer belt and it fits just fine bypassing the compressor. I measured the pulley diameters on the water pump, crank shaft and generator and the are all the same. How can the same belt fit one car, but not the other?

    Barry are both belts the same width? Does one sit lower in the grooves than the other?

    Same-o, same-o. My car has air, but the compressor seized while on the road. I simply bypassed the compressor and was back on the road in a half-hour.

    The only variable can be the generator as the other two pulleys are fixed locations.

    I wonder if there are two models of generator mount brackets?
