A retired lincoln mechanic told me he had an old rusted out 1956 lincoln premire that he was going to sell to a salvage yard. I went out to look at it and he still had a key to open the trunk and we found 11 hubcaps, 4 of which still had a paper covering on the clips that held the center insert in place. They were all incredibly dirty from sitting in that trunk all those years, but when I rubbed some of the dirt off, I could see a bright shine underneath.
I bargained with him and bought them all, and I am in the process of cleaning them up. The four with the origional cardboard on cleaned up really nice and the center inserts look great, although I can see a few minor scratches and a small ding on one. The other 7 shined up as I hoped they would , but they have some minor dings and scratches and the inserts could use some new paint. I only have a Mark 11, so I'll probably offer these for sale first to any of our members that might have a 1956 premiere and could use one or more as a spare. I am wondering if I should paint the plastic inserts as they once were or leave it up to a potential buyer who may want to paint them to match his car?
If any one is interested I will be glad to take some pictures of them and post them, and try to figure out a fair price based on the condition. I hope it is alright to post this information on the Mark 11 Forum.
