My car has a modified A/C system. Everything is original except for the compressor, drier and lines running from the compressor to the evaporator. The system is charged with 134a. It is currently 94 degrees in Chicago and I drove the 26 miles into the city, a good share of it in bumper to bumper crawl, comfortably listening to a CD with my recent audio installation. Point of this post is that the A/c was ice cold... operating beautifully... and the engine wasn't overheating. Next step will be putting some darker tint on the side and rear window. A wonderful ride!

Somebody will mistake you for a movie star behind that dark tint.:D

On a bright sunny day, the sun's glare and brightness within the passenger compartment needs to be toned down. The car has "tinted glass" which is original and mentioned on the factory invoice, but IMO compared to current car's tinted glass is not tinted enough.

Shelly, what type of replacement compressor did you use? Did you change the huge dryer mounted under the car if so, what sort of dryer did you end up with?

My car was converted before I bought it. The compressor is a "Sanden Model U4323". There is no huge drier on the bottom of the car. There is the usual looking drier mounted vertically which has an integrated sightglass and electrical switch mounted on the top (sorry the label is turned to the inside against the body and I can't read it without unmounting it). The original lines from the compressor back to the evaporator in the trunk were replaced with GoodYear A/C hoses which were probably custom made for the application as they are so much longer than the ones that fit newer cars. The evaporator and the condenser are original.
