A couple of weeks ago, I accidently came across an ebay seller with some Scottoy Ford Continental Mark IIs. He posted the auction 3 times in March and had very few buyers (two). I contacted him and was able to get one of each color from him. They arrived this week.
They are remakes of models by Mercury (of Italy) from the 50s. Scottoys is located in Italy, starting business in 1998. The first models out were copies of Mercury models and included the Mark II. The Scottoy Mark IIs are supposedly smaller(1/52) than the indicated size of the Mercury model (1/43). Not having a Mercury model, I do not know for sure what the Mercury model scale was. (if anyone has a Mercury model Ford Continental, please send me the measurements)
It's rare to find one of Scottoys models for sale here let alone the Mark II model. I have spotted them for sale at retail costs in Europe at 29 euros plus what could be expensive shipping. Also, Italy does not have a good reputation for getting their package mail out of the country though there is a site in England that had one for sale.
The seller I found is in Las Vegas, NV and thinks he has about 20 left. Not sure of his quantity by colors but he was selling them for $25 each - a bargain compared to buying one from overseas. He apparently had bought a small quantity of them almost 12 years ago and also had them make some reproduction Mercury boxes in addition to the Scottoy boxes that the models come in. The Mercury boxes are the same size as the Scottoy boxes and he includes a Mercury reproduction box along with the Scottoy box and model.
The models come in red, green, blue, and sand (beige). I posted a picture of a green one on the Mark II models thread in the General Forums.
I told him I would be willing to pass on his email address and his ebay handle. He said ok.
I make a habit of not posting emails or ebay handles on forums, particularly when "anyone" can read them, so if you are interested in contacting the seller to buy one or more from him, please send me a private message.
