Hi my name is Johnny. I am a collector in California and am about to buy VIN C56C2344. It was last sold @ Barrett-Jackson in Nov of 2009. Does anyone know anything about this car?

Hi Johnny and welcome to the Forum! You can give this a try.

Other than being sold new with A/C and a white exterior with light green nylon biscuits and medium green leather Bolsters and light green welting for an interior (if I read the codes correctly) this is all I could come up with from our data base. Some other forum members may know more about the car.

I saw one sell at the Barrett-Jackson auction in Arizona in August of 2009.

You could check the DMV in Arizona for a recent registration. Some go back 10 years.

Wow

You guys are great and right on. Good news is the car is exactly as described. Now I need to trace ownership. Looks like it is a Texas car. I will see what I can find out from the Texas DMV.

By the way, does anyone know what the fender vents mean. I think they come with factory air.

I googled Barrett Jackson Auction Nov 1999 and the only one that came up was a white with white and blue interior. What is interesting are the photos which I could not transfer but show 'side markers' which are turn signal indicators up on the top of the fenders like 1966 thunderbirds and stabilizers which are. rear window dividers like the 1957 oldsmobile. The write up sets out that these are rare and were on early models. I have never heard of them. Take a look and wish I could have posted the photos but no expertise in that area. Gary

Wouldn't 2344 be way too late for A/C nostrils from the factory?

Not at all, Jan 56 was right in the mix.

Johnny, we fondly call those "nostrils". They are the air intakes for the AC and later eliminated with the intakes moved to back side of the grill. The nostrils are regarded by some here (including me) as one of the sexyist details of the Mark II.

Welcome to the Forum and good luck with your quest.

Chuck

You are right on, the "nostrials" came with factory air for a while. They are "sexy" and functional. The air works great with the overhead vents which will be nice in the desert. I bought the car, and will have it by morning. It was sold at the Barrett-Jackson auction in November of 2009. New owner needed money. Good for both of us.

Jack Rosen already found me so I will be ordering parts on Monday. Part of the reason that I bought was because of the Forum. I know that I can get help when I need it.....Thanks again guys.

Remember that the production started with 1001, meaning it was the 1,300th car, or thereabouts.

Nope. The nostrils were deleted as a running change pretty early as they were found to be ineffectual at bringing in enough air in desert climes and at keeping water out of the car. I believe it was P.O. 1239 that had the last of the bronze nostrils, according to the parts book.

How does this fit in?

Barry, I muffed the mechanics of quoting one of your posts.

I don't know that I can correspond the job number to a serial number.

As cars were ordered they were given a job or production order number. My serial number is 126 but my Production Order is #137. In my research I found a huge file of cancelled Production Orders that aren't filed with the others. Each cancelled car throws off the P.O. number as it correlates to the serial number.

Job #1239 was not the 1,239th car made, it was simply the number on the Production Order.

We should be able to narrow down the last nostriled car by our data base.

Did you ever find out anything more about the history of your car?
The 1976-77 LCOC Directory shows your car was owned by Myron C. Gretler, 134 Miramar Ave. , Santa Barbara, Ca., at that time.

2344 is going to be auctioned tomorrow by EG auctions during the Desert Classic Concours in La Quinta, CA. The car is cream (looks to be an older paint job) with a blue interior (biscuits and bolsters) with white welts. Poor thing has a bad case of Mark II hood and a wobbly star wheel on the driver's side door--door bounces open when shut and one door coupe syndrome is coming without some attention. Hub caps have blue painted behind blades. I'll update when I see what it sells for and try to identify new owner.

Pat, that link doesn't work for me. I'm pretty sure I had seen pictures of the car, but couldn't find the thread. I found these at the EG Auctions site.

The car came up for auction and it went up to $29,000, I believe, before bidding stalled and car was a no sale; EG auctioneer indicated reserve was $40,000. I'm not sure how much that tells us about the Mark II market as the auction seemed to be pretty light on everything (e.g. A 1925 Lincoln that belonged to Greta Garbo sold for only $32K)
