Greetings from up north!

Owner is my father-in-law and he bought the car from down south (Texas?) a few years ago. More pics here (http://photos.cowco.net/thumbnails.php?album=37).
Not sure how much work has been done to the car but I do know the body was stripped and repainted last winter. The metallic burgandy is gone and a new deep red luster restored!
I drove the car to my first cruise night last night ... engine not running right but I'll post details in my next post.

I myself own a 2004 VW Jetta TDI, a 2001 Dodge Dakota 4x4 and a 1994 Ford Aerostar just to round things out.

I'm an engineer and started working life at a nuclear power plant. I now do computer work for the same company. My wife, 3 grown kids, 1 grandchild, 1 puppy and 4 cats kind of round things out!

Welcome Ian. That was supposed to be my name but my grandparents didn't like it. Arggggg!

It may not be running right for a couple of reasons. The carb is a "teapot" design that's prone to problems, but are easily corrected by a rebuilder that knows what they're doing. I've heard that Pony does a good job because they actually bolt the carb to a running engine to fine tune it. You just bolt it up and go.

Another major weak link is the vacuum system. Get a vacuum gauge. you should have 20hg of vacuum at each port. In order to maintain vacuum to the wipers and antenna at a constant, unrelated to engine fluctuations, there is a vacuum booster on top of the fuel pump, driven off the same cam.

Huge vacuum leaks can develop in the brake booster, if it's an early sleeve type and the most common cause of vacuum leaks is the reservoir built into the frame of the car on the passenger side. If this is breached you'll have poor brakes and a bad idle.

What's that tube from the exhaust manifold? Mine doesn't have that.

Doesn't look like there's a PCV valve. So, it's just CV. Works for me. I hate all that oil under my car from the draft tube.

I would disconnect the hood and trunk light. They are easy enough to reconnect if you need them. The mercury switches go bad and drain your battery.

Welcome Ian...... nice to have you on board. Our cars are just 12 apart. Probably both assembled the same day! Cool. Mine's metallic brown. I'm wondering if they shot a series of cars all brown before they went to another color?
