Sooner or later the engine on the mark II may not be capable of multiple rebuilds. I have had one. I read in an auto magazine that when the 460 engine came out, Mr Ford replaced the original engine in his Mark II with the 460, made some additional timely upgrades and continued to drive his Mark II for years. He must have loved the Mark II given the accessibility of cars available to him. That asside I wonder when the time comes what would be a suitable replacement having consideration to transmission linkage motor mounts, etc. Maybe Mr Ford had all the research done and the 460 was the best match

I think the WCF Hotrod Lincoln was just showcasing the latest and greatest from Ford at the time. 460, disc brakes, etc. If you think about it he pretty much resto-rodded a Mark II before the term was coined. Now everyone is doing it to everything.
Unless you are interested in recreating THAT car or just want to customize yours, I wouldn't bother replacing a 54 year old engine for a 35+ year old engine. It isn't a bolt in and there are no kits to do so. For ALL that TIME & MONEY you could get much more modern and creative. (Think new p/up diesel with 350hp and 650-700 ft lbs of torque)
The 650lb. 368 engine was waaaay overengineered. Unless you really damage it, you should be able to rebuild it over and over. If you needed to replace the block, they are out there. Never produced in great numbers, but the ones that were really weren't picked apart for racing or hotrods (like say early hemis or 327 chebbies) so they are still around. I see them online for sale.
If you were to stick with the original 368, but want more performance, 425+ cubic inches is possible from it if you use the steel crank from the '60s era Ford HD truck engines that had 302 & 332 Lincoln Y-blocks. Check this page http://www.ford-y-block.com/lincoln.htm
Interestingly, "500 inches is theoretically possible with a 4.375 bore x 4.16 stroke both of which would fit within limits of the bore spacing, block deck height, and cam to crank parameters"* using custom aftermarket parts of course.

Thank You. Whatever it takes to keep the Mark II going so that my next generation can enjoy the majesty is my plan.

If you interested in how to do an engine swap here is how I put a 400 in my MKII. Plus a couple other changes.
