We had a little problem today starting our newly acquired 1956 Mark II after we had driven the car a little ways and had turned it off for about five minutes. The weather is very hot here. Any ideas on what our problem might be or is this normal for the Mark II?
Any comments or suggestions appreciated.

Spark is too far advanced or you have vapor lock.
Does it seem to drag the starter down when trying to restart? That's often spark advance.
If it turns over freely it could be vapor lock.
I've also heard of coils breaking down in high temperatures.

According to Motors Book from the 50's.....hard to start when hot indicates a fuel mixture which is too rich. Try to retune

Does the starting motor crank? Starting motors that quit when the engine gets hot need to be replaced.

It turns over good just grinds a little longer than when we first set out. It may be we just need to learn whether to pat the accelerator or not. All this is new to us since this is our first 1956.
