Check out this article I found. Pictures too. Personally, I think bad idea. I hope they don't. Over time the early Cougar has not come close to the collectability of the Mustang. So the interest isn't there. I don't believe this retro take on the car would be successful.

I kinda like it Dave. I was in a photo shoot at Ford Headquarters once and they paired my car with a Cougar. It looked so small.
I think there are enough old guys like me out there that that might make a nice niche car.

The cougar seems to maintain fondness only from their existing owners, rather than the hobby in general.

I always liked the lines of the original Cougar and I think this concept car retains those lines. In the later years Mercury tried to take it in a luxury path and I think it lost my attention then.
When they first came out there was a kid in my school who got one from this parents as soon as they were released. I remember him showing us all the sequential turn signal and remember thinking what a great gimmick. I know the mustangs had those as well but I think it was after the cougar, right?
This "retro thing" I believe, targets our generation's youth. We would have cut off an appendage for a hot car in high school. Trans Am, Camaro, Corvette, Cuda, Pacer.. (ok, maybe not). I have talked to so many people with new Camaros that say they couldn't wait to get the car because they had one when they were growing up but it was a used beater and it was all they could afford. They state that "Now I can afford a new one and I did it."

I rather like it too. I owned a 69 and 73 XR7s. If you recall, for many years Mercury ads used the catch phrase "at the sign of the cat". Currently, Mercury does not have a car that people identify with. A new Cougar might make the brand interesting again. Chuck, the 1965 Thunderbird (another car I miss) was the first Ford product to have sequential turn signals. The Cougar had them from 1967 to 1973. The 71 Thunderbird was the end of the sequential signals for that model. The Mustang Shelbys of the period also had the neat lights. None of the regular Mustangs were so equipped. The 71 Chrysler Imperial also had those type of turn signals. Currently, the 2010 Mustang have them. I hate to admit it, but when I had my Cougars, I used to turn on the signals and watch them. I guess it does not take too much to entertain me.
