I got a call from someone at Ford asking if they could use my car in a photo shoot at World Headquarters. It was the middle of the winter so I declined. They called back and said they would send a transport, but I would have to drive it into their white-room studio. It was the most disconcerting driving experience I've ever had. There was no delineation between floor wall or ceiling. There were no visual clues as to where you were in the space.

I positioned the car next to a '68 Cougar for a Mercury Division internal video featuring Eleana Ford. I was kind of astounded that she didn't know what a Mark II was. It was pretty fascinating to watch them make the video. I enjoyed the day.

The second shoot came a year later. I got a call from a company that did creative design work for Ford and others. I was asked if they could see my car. I told them that I was detailing it for the Meadow Brook Concours. They decided to pay me a visit at the show. As our car was awarded Best of Class our visitors arrived.

They walked around the car, took some shots and offered the results of a photoshoot, at no expense, in exchange for their use of the images. I had seen some of their work so it was a go.

They asked if they could use both Continentals in their shoot. We took both cars to their poorly lit warehouse and stashed the cars near some Ford products that had yet to be introduced.

This was more of a white stage than a white room. It was enormous, though.

Fantastic pitures! It must be an experience to be there.

I don't know if it's appropriate to call them pictures. They are more digital creations, because they are not quite what they seem.

The detail pictures are mildly massaged. The full body shots and the depth of field shot are heavily "photoshopped", but in a good way.

Apparently, lighting is the key to these shots. They shoot very high resolution pictures of the whole car in general illumination. That was used as a latticework for the final picture. Hung on that latticework were individual shots of every feature lit perfectly. Those "tiles" were laid on the master grid until they had enough information to blend them all together as one.

The depth of field shot is also a tile job. In this picture the focal point was changed about every foot. Only the in-focus section of those pictures, "tiles" if you will, are built up to get the impossible shot.

I'm told that this process requires an enormous amount of memory.
