The rebuild on my GTO motor was just completed. For those interested, this is the original 389 tri power motor. I also got a correct rebuilt transmission, correct Hurst shifter, had the 3 carbs rebuilt, and many other components to dress up the engine bay. The motor work was a mainly stock rebuild, with a dyno test at the end. Painted to original pontiac blue color. Here's some select shots of the process. I'm very happy with the results so far and the engine runs very well and stronger.

Dave:
Did the engine rebuilder say anything about running oil with zinc? I know you have a mallory cam with the stock grind.

Melling is the camshaft I got. Yes they are the "old" factory grinds...the real deal. Melling was the original supplier to GM in that period. I was told to use the Valvoline VR1 racing oil 20w-50 with zinc/phosphorus in it, during the break in period. After that 5w-30 is fine since this car is for shows and regular weekend type driving.
