View Full Version : Under seat card board material?

I would guess that we've all had the Mark II seats out at one time or another. In doing so, you probably noticed that there was a black sheet of card board type material between the springs and the foam. Mine is starting to get some cracks in it, so I'd like to protect the foam from any damage. I'd guess this is a common event which is easy to ignore, but should be an easy fix as well. My question is what modern day product appoximates this item? Card board, roofing felt, or artist post board don't seem close enough to me. Any suggestions?
Thanks.
Don

Okay, no response. Does this mean:
a. No one has an idea as to what might work best for this purpose. (Not likely, knowing the members.)
b. It doesn't matter what's under the seats, let alone the condition of the card board. (I've read too many messages on the Forum to believe that any detail is too minute. Just wait 'til a spring pops up through your bisquit and into your bun!)
c. No one on the Forum has ever replaced these items. (Wow and shame shame.)
d. There are bigger fish to fry. (Yeah, but I'll know that the rest of you all have shabby card board under your seats.)
Seriously, I'll make do with what I can come up with on my own and post pictures. A guy has to protect his bisquits!

I don't have acess to my car right now, but I would suggest
100% rag Artists' matt board.
It can be purchased in different thicknesses from an art supply shop.
Maybe take a sample of what you are looking to replace with you to gauge a close match.
Good Luck!

My seats are out and the material is in very poor condition. There is an artist's mat board by Strathmore that is solid black ( thru and thru) that as mentioned above would work well I think and I will check on it as wellhttp://img.tapatalk.com/ae4675cd-5515-9aaa.jpg

Check out a fabric store, take your wife with you if you’re embarrassed to go in alone, and look to see what they have in the way of reupholstering material. Or perhaps a heavy gauge flexible plastic.

Dan, Joseph and Rich,
Just a note of thanks. You guys are great. By necessity I'm slow at my amateur restoration work and I ask a lot of questions. I do think that your responses help others as well. You all and all the others who provide help are contributing in a big way toward keeping these cars on the road and looking good. I hope you realize that and I appreciate all of you.

I think I can speak for everyone in the forum when I say we get far more than we give. This is one of the best forums I have been on and I think it benefits everyone here when we get the most constructive participation. Many people on here have been working on these cars for many years and have a lot of institutional memory... then there are those like me that just need to be institutionalized! :D
