Does anyone own a Mark II which is legally titled and/or registered as a Continental? This topic is the subject of some discussion at LOVEfords, and I have covered it in Legendary Ford Magazine. And it is part of a recent addtion on the LOVEfords site.

I live in New York State, and as far as I know, Continental is not allowed as a make of car when it comes to registration and title. This is what the NYSDMV calls "standardization progress".

In the same category we find the 1960 and 1961 Comets which, according to Ford, are not Mercurys (using their own unique set of VIN last-six). DMV won't allow that either.

John,

When I bought my Mark II and filled out the NJ DMV registration form, I wrote down Continental as the Make and Mark II as the model. When I got the registration, it read 1956 Linc. :(

My MKII was originally titled as a Lincoln Continental also.

I finally got around to retitling it into my name last week.
The girl at the currency exchange just copied what was on the title. It didn't seem worth the effort to try to convince her that it was not a Lincoln. Plus she was have enough of a problem just trying to read a 50 year old title.:D

But I did make a copy of that title before surrendering it.:)

The California title I received had the car as a 1969 Lincoln 2dr --- VIN everything else was accurrate. Illinois corrected the year on my title, now its a 1956 Lincoln 2 dr.
