The first car I ever owned was a green 1970 Chevy Nova. I was 18 and I bought it for $3,000 and owned it for about 15 years. The car I traded it for was carp.

'68 Firebird that I bought at 19 in 1971.

Actually, that's not true. I had a 1930 Dodge when I was in military school. Parents wouldn't let me bring it home. Second was the Corvair I cut the top off of, cut away the floor pan between the doorposts and shortened 3 feet. Did that at 15 while my parents were on a two week cruise. Got some pictures of that beast somewhere.

Glad I still have the gal, wish I still had the car.

Was it a Sable?

I've had a few stinkers, too.:D

:eek:A 1960 Corvair 2dr sedan bought for $183. You learned the value of turning into a skid or went 'round & 'round.

1963 Lambretta Scooter.. $150 Then graduated to 66 Mustang with no floor pans. Only thing that gave it lateral stability was that the carpet was good. :D

Best car out of HS= 1972 Sattelite Sebring Plus. Fire engine red, silver rocker panels and white vinyl top. I still look for these on Ebay.

1955 Chevrolet Bel-Air Convertible. Sold in 1959 $500. Then bought 1957 Ford Fairlane 500 convertible for $1200. Took it to school (Tucson, AZ) for three years, sold for $300... (bent frame and I pretty much tore it up). Then had an MG-B roadster for a few years. Back to Chicago for law school where the winters are tough and the MG didn't fit the climate. Traded it on on a brand new Volvo 122S which was beyond AWFULL. SO after one year it was traded in for a '64 Pontiac Catalina Convert. 2+2 which I drove for 8 years doing nothing more than putting gas in the tank. From '72 till '93 I had a series of MBs.

1930 Ford Model A Town Sedan. I bought it from the original owner for $500. Had about 60,000 miles on it then (mid 1960s). I still have it. Now has about 83,000 original miles. The interior mohair upholstery is original and in remarkably good shape.

First car was a 5 year old '54 Ford 4-door, V-8, 3 speed for $150. Traded it a year later for a pristine '51 Ford coupe, V-8, 3 sp/OD. Totaled it and got another '51 Ford, V-8, 3sp/OD and made a full custom out of it. Lots of chrome, lowered 5" (reversed spindles). Drug on anything higher than 3". Love to have it back, went to Hawaii when I sold it. They guy offered way to much money :).

When I was 11 years old in 1970, I bought a 1950 Chrysler Windsor for $50. Drove it around my father's Shell station in Tucson, Az. Traded it in 1972 for a 1955 Mercury Monterrey Coupe.

My first car I got when I was a Junior in high school and it was a 1985 Chevrolet El Camino, still have it so far lol. It has been a great car but not much of a chick magnet :D.

Here's the shortened Corvair, with not-too-happy Grandma standing by. She looks like a Munchkin in this picture.

This was actually my first new vehicle, a 1974 Dodge with a 318 2 bbl. The Panda Van.

Barry,
I don't suppose you used Bamboo instead of typical wood panels?:)

Barry Wolk

Shoot!:):)

No, but the cabin interior of my toybox is lined with bamboo flooring.

Shoot HAHAHA pardon the pun:D

I hear bamboo flooring is all the rage in 'green' building as a renewable material.

I don't mind doing green things if they are cost effective. Bamboo is an engineered product. It doesn't shrink or swell much at all. It is laterally stable and ideal for this kind of use. The light color made the interior feel much larger.

If you have an insane amount of time, read about my "toybox" trailer project.

Not for dial-up.

My first car was a white 1959 Studebaker Lark VIII Regal two door hardtop. It was equipped with V8, P/S, P/B, A/C, Auto. The interior was red and black. I was with my dad when he purchased the car at Gordy Motor Company, Beaumont, Texas, on December 23, 1958. Funny, every December 23th I think about that car. My dad died in 1961. My mom did not drive, so when I turned 16 in 1968, I got the Lark. It had less than 9000 miles when I started driving it. It served me through high school (kids made fun of me, after all it was a Studebaker). I drove it a few years when in college. Traded for a used 1969 Cougar XR7. I never think about the Cougar, but I still think about the Studebaker. I still remember the Lark's VIN, 59V7093.

My first car was a 53 Ford. With that car, I learned everything I need to know to keep my Mark II running! Always a problem, but I learned alot.

My first car was a red 1976 AMC Matador station wagon handed down from my parents who wanted to ensure that I couldn't possibly get a girl pregnant in high school. It worked.

It was slow, hideous and unreliable. I didn't have money to add any cool fog lights like this one has.

Mine was a bronze color 1966 Barracuda. It was a car bought to replace a 1965 Mustang that was totaled in 1972 by my mother and she hated driving the 'Cuda because of the rear window so gave it to me. The first car I "bought" was a red with white interior 1968 Cadillac Calis 2-dr and was hooked on land yachts ever since.:D

My first car was a 1956 thunderbird which I traded in on June 6, 1969 for a 1969 442 W32 convertible which I still have today. It was not a hsppy day when I traded the thunderbird because in 1969 the parts were considered obsolete and costly but in retrospect only 25 W32 convertibles were made in 1969 so worked out

I've enjoyed everyone's "first car" stories and pictures. I ran across a photo of me "manning" the wheel of my 1959 Studebaker taken on December 23, 1958. My parents could not pry me out of that car that night. Even at 6, I was a car fan. I guess I will be till I take my last breath.
