I watch a lot of movies made in the 1930s-1960s mostly for the cars. I can't think of too many in which a Mark II appears. One notable appearance by a Mark II is in "The Sweet Smell of Success". Burt Lancaster's character J. J. Hunsecker gets into a Mark II parked at the curb. The scene was shot at night so the Mark II is sort of hard to really feast one's eyes upon, but it is worth a look just the same. Plus there is a decent shot of it as it drives away. It happens in the first 15 minutes or so. This movie was made in 1957.

Does anyone know of any other movies in which a Mark II can be seen?

Here's a link to "Lincolns in the Movies on our sister site "TheLincolnForum.net"

There a couple of Frank Sinatra movies listed. May be others.

There is a website dedicated to movie cars, called imcdb.org (http://www.imcdb.org/)

Here is a search for mk II's in the movies: Continental MkII in the movies (http://www.imcdb.org/vehicles.php?make=Continental&model=Mark+II&modelMatch=1&modelInclModel=on)

The car is in High Society.

Right, I forgot about High Society, I knew there was some movie made in color in which a Mark II appeared. I also forgot about that imcdb site. They have a lot of great stills from movies, but they also have a lot of misinformation where people have incorrectly labeled cars... as a result a search doesn't always contain the results we hope for.

I was watching Gone in 60 Seconds last night and I think they had the back of a Mark II body (just the shell) sitting outside their "hideout".

From the sublime to the ridiculous...in one of the bumper shots on a recent episode of "L.A. Ink" there was a Mark II prominently featured in a street scene...

I was having a discussion with someone yesterday about the Mark II (even though I don't like to talk about them much.):D
He asked if I remembered the TEF show?

Well it turns out the "Ford Show" (a play on words for both the sponsor and the host) ran from 1956 to about 61. He contends that in the early shows the opening shots had TEF shown with a convertible Mark II.

First I would find that hard to believe but then again if it were 56 and Continental had an idea of offering one it might be a place to spark some interest.

Does anyone remember this? I've check several places but can't find much.

Chuck, I watched a number of clips of The Ford Show on YouTube, but couldn't find anything with the Mark II. You might want to write to the poster of this site:

Here's a clip of the only one I could find with the introduction from '56. There are four or five more clips with the rest of this episode, but none have any commercials.

I also enjoyed watching clips of the Edsel Show. This clip shows an Edsel convertible at the end.

I happened to see a street scene towards the end of the 1997 movie "Inventing the Abbots"
Liv Tyler and Joaquin Phoenix walk past a Black Mk II.

I've probably missed seeing it posted elsewhere in the forum, but there is a black Mark II in a couple of scenes in the color 1956 movie "You Can't Run Away From It."

The movie is a remake of "It Happened One Night" (1934) with June Allyson (heiress), Jack Lemmon (reporter), Charles Bickford (millionaire father), and Mark II replacing Claudette Colbert, Clark Gable, Walter Connolly and 1930/31 Cadillac V-16.

Bickford and Allyson are backseat passengers in nice new Mark II chauffered by gent in western garb. Car appears to be black with bumper guards, all leather, white bolsters, black piping, black biscuits.

Stan:

The film that Jack Lemmon wished he never made. Where did you find such an obscure unavailable long forgotten film which was a flop the day it was released. It was shelved immediately. A sound track album was released and copies are very rare but worthless. There may be some boot leg videos available that no one cares to buy. Have you actually seen this dog?

Shelly:

I'd seen this film a couple of times years ago, and watched it then because I liked "It Happened One Night." I happened to catch "You Can't Run Away From It" in progress on TCM on 11/14/11 and snapped on the DVR in time to catch a couple of the Mark II sequences which I looked at again this afternoon when deleting files.

I couldn't find reference to it at IMCDb.org during a quick search, so it's perhaps not yet listed.

If you're looking for a film as good as "It Happened One Night" or "The Apartment" you'll be disappointed. "You Can't Run Away From It" is a light comedy that is enjoyable even if a bit lightweight. Worth the watch for the short but good Mark II clips.

I love old movies too Stan. I'd probably enjoy seeing clips from this one.... especially the Mark II scenes. Interesting that Dick Powell who succeeded as an actor and producer completely failed when attempting to be a director. Every one of the 6 or 7 films he tried to direct was bad.

Wow - Ruby Keeler and Dick Powell were the best in the thirties! Nothing like the total escapism of Busby Berkley!
