Having wanted one of these for quite a while, I finally found a really nice example and was able to snag it at the Mecum auction in Dallas. This '55 Cadillac Fleetwood has everything I would want except, unfortunately, air conditioning. Overall, the car is showing a mere 43,000 miles on the odometer and it sports a fresh paint job and a very nice interior, engine compartment, trunk, etc.

It arrived on Tuesday evening and in the first week I have logged about 450 miles. Thus far, it starts, runs, drives, and stops very well though has a pronounced vibration at higher speeds. The car was largely unused for the last year, so I am guessing there may be some flat spots in the bias ply tires.

I think the car makes the perfect complement to the Mark II. Compared to the Mark II, I don't find it nearly as refined in either its fit and finish nor in its ride. That's to be expected, though, I assume as it was half the price of the Mark II. And, in fairness, my Mark II is the nicer of the two. Now just one more car to find (a 1962 Studebaker GT Hawk with a four-speed) and my dream collection will be complete!

You just need a bigger building.

Nice buy. How about the vintage air system?

Actually, Barry, I only partially want it for its functionality. I do live in the Deep South, so air conditioning is certainly God's gift to the Southland. But, I think the a/c set-up in the mid-fifties Cadillacs is really cool aesthetically with the external air scoops, interior plastic ducts, and roof mounted vents. So, I kind of wanted it just for the visual effect. Nonetheless, it certainly wasn't a deal breaker!

Fantastic car.... and it IS the perfect compliment to the Mark II.
Enjoy!

Nice car! I don't especially like green, but this 60S is good looking with that 2-tones green, with a nice interior.
I don't know the mechanical condition of this car; I hope you had a look at the brake cylinders; usually, they are no more good. Fortunately, those parts are easy to find.
A/C was a real luxury at that time; I don't know the proportion of cars with/witout; I can imagine that even in your region most luxury cars in 1955 had no A/C and people survived!

Congratulations Kevin!
I'm glad to hear the vehicle proved to be as nice as anticipated.
A fine purchase.
I expect the wobble won't cost too much to rectify; with only 43,000 original miles it doesn't sound like the car was abused.
I can't imagine owning more than one land yacht, but I'm with you on a Studebaker. :D
Enjoy your new ride!
