Our vent window quit working awhile ago and we are just now getting around to replacing it. However, we can't figure out how to remove the motor. The book said remove these four bolts and it would drop out along with its bracket. Well it did not and its hanging there without the bolts, it looks like it could be jammed into the nylon attachment it goes in to up at the window. Any ideas on how to get this out or what could be the trouble?
Thanks

The motor and gearbox are connected to the window pivot shaft. You have to remove that connection and motor should come out. I think there's a drawing somewhere.

Hmmm. There must be a nut on the output shaft.

I took mine apart a couple summers ago. There was no nut that I recall. The window post was splined and the motor output (female) was splined also. Persuasion should get them apart.
The problem I ran into was that on the passenger side the bolts for the motor bracket were rusted from a the leak prone dog leg design and 3 came out and 1 rounded off. After some fiddling, cussing, and crying 3 bolts went back in and the vent window isn't fixed. Sometimes I have better luck if I walk away awhile and come back to it:o

Well after a lot of swearing and yelling...lol we got the vent window motor out! :) However the bad news is its toast :(.

By toast, what do you mean? Motor bad or just the gear reduction?

It has nothing to do with the gear it just wont turn at all when hooked up properly.

Did you ground the frame of the motor? Does it hum when you apply power to one lead and the motor frame?

All it does is spark nothing else.

Now we're getting somewhere.
Your motor windings are good. The motor is either seized or the lubricant in the gearbox had turned to mud. Also, the water leak may have seized the motor at its bottom bearing.
Separate the two and check to see if either spins. If the armature turns in the core, the motor is probably good. If the gearbox is seized you can most likely free it up. Someone posted about different effectiveness of penetrants. Use something aggressive, you have nothing to lose.
My last ditch effort is to bake the gearbox for about 10 minutes at 350°. That will liquify the thick lubricant and possibly free up a corroded shaft.
It's worth a try. Lots of patience and a few light hammer taps might save you a few bucks and give you a great deal of gratification.
I just rebuilt the power antenna for the limo. It was all bent up, but I was able to straighten the shaft. The biggest problem was that the grease in the gearbox had turned hard, dragging everything to a stop.

Thanks for that advice Barry :). But the gearbox is fine and is not frozen that we know of.

Well we just opened it up and it smells burnt inside plus he says a brush is out of place inside as well.

That doesn't sound good.

Also we just found a ball bearing inside I think the motor is shot :(.

Allan,
Was it the motor? If so, did you have it rebuilt? It would be great if you explained how you remedied the problem for future reference to forum members who might have the same problem in the future with their cars.
Thanks! :)

Yea your right Nick I should have better explained that haha. So our vent window motor went out not too long ago and we finally yanked it out of there and hooked it up to a battery and it did not run. So we tore it apart and as soon as we did brushes fell out and the smell of burnt wiring poured out. We asked around about the motor and found out that Jack from Mark II Enterprises has re engineered a new motor with a modern relay system. So we purchased that from him and installed it. It fit just like the original motor and now it runs smoothly and much quieter than the old motor, thanks Jack! If anyone wants to know more about it I would be happy to talk with you.
