speedo graduations

Have noticed that there is two different speedo graduations used in the MkII. Is it the case that the 56 has a 140 with 70 at the 12 o'clock and the 57 has a 120 with 60 at 12 o'clock ?? or is it not that simple ?? Also at what Vin number does the year model change from 56 to 57 ??

I don't know about the speedometer, but the first '57 is 3418.

I've always heard that the Mark II speedometer change was due to a lawsuit threatened over the fact that the 1956 Mark II lacked the ability to do 140 mph.

Anyone have info to verify this story?
