Here's a link I found of some neat footage of a 1936 Pontiac assembly line in full swing. Just look at how automated the process was even back then. Look at how the whole body has been put together before lowering it on the frame. I would think the inside and glass would be installed AFTER they are joined. Also what would you think of bolting on a wheel over and over and over again one day after the next? Interesting how the sheet metal is pressed and shaped into hoods. Check out this clip. It's really worth it.

That's really interesting footage. Amazed that with how roughly the body seemed to be handled that it comes out so nice.

It's truly amazing footage, how times have changed.
It's the same footage that I posted a while back

The body was complete when it came on the frame. Have a look at 7:48: the glass can be seen. Maybe the seats were installed after, but I don't think so.
There was an assembly unit for GM in Switerland; I was "chassis engineer" at that factory in 1970. The trim glass and seats were installed before the body was lowered on the drive train (no more frames as the assembled cars were Opels with unitbody).
