That's why some of us never adjust our original carbs, haven't updated our ignition systems, and still fire up the Mark IIs to great black clouds of unburned premium gas. Figure I'm just about even with the Governor's carbon footprint from his Hummers and cigars...

Those are Sasquach feet prints. LOL

As for lovely weather here... it's been raining and temps have been driven well into the low 50's. The roads get all wet and YUCKY.

All kidding aside... IMO the best setting for this "get-together" would probably be near the coast. I suppose it could be done along Hwy 5 somewhere but the 1/2 way point would probably be Lost Hills, CA and besides a KOA there ain't much there.
On the coast the 1/2 way point looks like somewhere near San Luis Obispo which can be cold and a bit dreary in the winter if memory serves. There's some fine hotels around there and could be a good setting for the Rally. G-maps puts it about 3:45 from LA or SF. Not too tough on the old gals... and the cars should be fine too.
I'm open to whatever a group wants to do. I would be interested to know how many of our group might be interested in a Calif. Rally and their preferences to timing and location.

That would be a sight to see. We had 14 '50s-'70s Lincolns on a cross-Michigan caravan. We turned some heads.

Paso Robles is roughly the inland mid-point if we stay off I-5, which I think was the original factor behind its huge annual Memorial Day custom/hot rod show and rally, but not much to recommend it otherwise IMHO. San Luis Obispo is probably a good candidate--and isn't that where the Madonna Inn is? maybe a good backdrop for a parking lot full of equally iconic Mark IIs. Morro Bay or Pismo Beach would be the nearest beach towns to SLO, but both can be foggy at any time of the year (although I think Pismo has a pretty big show of its own each year) and would require some back-tracking for anyone coming from the north (unless they came all the way down Highway 1). Inland, and maybe a bit farther south, would be Santa Maria or Solvang with their adjacent wine country. But, let's see if anyone besides Chuck and me are interested...otherwise, maybe we'll flip a coin and either I'll drive up to The City and we'll go down to Scoma's and have dinner or he can drive down here and I'll take him to Gladstone's...

I'd love a Mark II Rally, I'd definitely come.

Wine country would be fantastic! A day of cruising the Marks from winery to winery for tastings would be so fun!

Guys.... except for 10 week days I'm in Palm Springs Jan 2 till Feb 28. That last week end is the Palm Springs Exotic Car Auction which I want to attend. If by any chance you guys meet up when I'm there, I would join the group (without my Mark II) to talk shop and see your wonderfull cars.

Hope that most of you can also make it to the LCOC Western National Meet in Ventura Ca. next May. There were about seven Mark IIs at the '08 Western Meet. You can see pics of some of them here:

Shelly: We're planning on being in the desert over the last weekend you'll be there. It's also the weekend for the Desert Classic Concours at La Quinta; a wonderful show in a great venue. We're very pleased and honored that our Mark II has been invited to participate. As the date gets closer, let's touch bases again and see if our paths will cross--even without the cars--I'd like to meet you and thank you in person for pulling the forum together.

And Jim may be on to something. Maybe we try and tie a Mark II rally in May to the LCOC meet in Ventura as a way to help attract some sort of critical mass. Wouldn't have to be a sanctioned LCOC event, but maybe we could begin to bring the LCOC and the forum together. Ventura is a little more than half way for anyone coming from the north--but maybe the added attraction of the LCOC events would compensate.
