Hello, I am new to this forum as well as being a fairly new 1957 Mark II owner. I bought my car about 2 years ago with a transmission problem. I just had the trans rebuilt and was suppose to pick up the car today. Turns out the fork to engage park is broken. I was loading it on my trailer, put it in park and it started rolling off the trailer. That problem is being fixed. Second issue when I went to start the car, car was in park, it would not do anything. I had to start the car in neutral. I presume that the car should start when engaged in park. I know it seems like a stupid question but I have never had a Mark II and I just want to be sure. I presume because the fork was broken the safety would not let me start the car. Thanks in advace for your help. Jeff.

Jeff,

Just got your message and called you, but you didn't answer the phone. Your Mark II will only start in neutral. It will not start in park. That's the way they came from the factory. A kit is available which allows you to start it in park if you so decide. I live in the next town over from where your transmission was rebuilt. I will gladly take a ride over in the morning if need be. Let me know. You have my telephone number and you can call me anytime.

I had to start the car in neutral.

To use computer jargon: Working as intended.
