Sold for $85,000 Friday night. Pretty sad that a custom gets as much, if not more, than a beautiful restoration.

Not my cup of tea. They removed all the iconic styling flourishes and made it a modern car. No Continental hump, no lever AC controls, no Mark II emblems... I hope they started with a parts car...

the gold bubble top custom that has been mentioned on this forum in the past is up for grabs at the Auburn Auction in Sept. It will be interesting to see what that one goes for.

I agree..let's hope they started with a junker. Do we know the VIN on that one? They could have just as easily have used an old 54 Merc and had similar material to work with vis a vis the front stying and the bulged out trunk lid etc.

I saw this red custom in person several years ago and what a let down it was considering the amount time the person must have put into it. All I remember thinking is that they did a damn good job of stripping every bit of elegance out of the car. The interior looked dated to the 1980s and those rims just clashed with the lines of the car and distracted the eye. :confused:
