I have a friends whos Dad has a Mark II he wants to sell quick. He has already told me that the floor boards have rust and the wheels are not original. What else should I be looking for? I'm going to see the car first thing tomorrow morning. It was his fathers car (friends Grandfather) and ran when parked but has been sitting for awhile. Has also been repainted. He has offered me the car for $2500 since he knows I want to restore it.

I need to know where to look for rust and problem areas. Its a complete car but I don't know where they are prone to rust. The ID tag is in the drivers door? The car was parked becuase 3 of the wheel studs broke off of the passenger rear when the aftermarket spoked wheels were put on. I know nothing about these cars other than what I have found on here over the last few weeks.

Check the frame for rust thru, front to rear. Then check it again. Anything can be fixed, but a frame ends up being a big job, a deal killer. Mark A Maromonte.

What is the VIN? (It's on the data plate on the driver's door, it begins with C56..). Maybe there is something in the history that can help you.

Well I saw the car early this morning and its in worse shape than I thought. The sills have been sitting on dirt for a long time. The last time it was regitered was 1985. the floors are rusted through and the passenger side frame rail doesn't have a bottom plate. The body seems ok and the interior wasn't horrible but I think that I have to pass on it.

Michael here is what I have on the history of 3192:
OWNERSHIP HISTORY:
#1 Peter Allen, (D)
#2 Russell G. Smart, (D)
#3 Ken Grosbeck NV, (D)
#4 1969-71 Lloyd Salisbury NV (D)
1975-77 Unknown Owner CA (L)
1978-79 Unknown Owner NV (L)
1981-84 Jerry Ausnow CA (L)
As you can see Jerry Ausnow was the reported owner in the 1981-1984 LCOC Membership Directories. Is that the name of the current owner? Any other information that you have will be helpful. If you can provide contact info, I will list this in the Forum Mark II's for sale section. I third the motion on getting pictures.

I or someone else on the board might be interested in it for parts. Another vote for pictures!

Sounds like it's barely a parts-car.

Morgan, from the description the car is something you should run from, not to.
Many here will attest that a cheap Mark II, isn't.
Just my $ .02.

I would like to definitely see pictures. I have been beating the streets pretty hard lately but running across a lot of cars in heavy disrepair or completely stripped out. I agree with you Barry on not taking this one on as a restoration project but it would be a good parts car IF it had everything still in place. This car is 14 hours away from me, it would probably would cost me around $500 to go get the thing if I drove my Cummins Dodge to go get it. Based off of this guy saying it's complete, it could fix a few cars I have in mind.

Morgan, I sure would like to know the VINs of all those Marks for the Registry histories. I'm not looking to blow any deals you might have cooking. For the time being the VIN, condition, general location (e.g. Los Angeles area, northern Arizona, etc.) will do fine. When things are resolved (one way or the other) more specific information would be appreciated.
Thanks,
