How difficult is it to replace the motors for the wing windows and the rear quarter windows? Anyone have step-by-step instructions? Thanks.

I'd be looking at switches and relays befor going into the motors. Also, if they are loose they won't work very well as they get their ground through the door. If your hinges are corroded the motors won't be properly grounded and the motors will work slowly.

The biggest problem with these motors is the lubricant they used. It turns to paste over time. Take the door panel off. There's a steel plate that the relays are attached to. Removing the plate will gain you access to the motor. There are two wires on the motor. One wire for up and one for down. Do not hook the ground to either.

run a hot and a ground right from a battery. Secure the ground to the motor bolt. Touch each one of the other wires with the positive lead. If your motors don't operate better, the motors could be the problem. If they move better, the problem is in the relays or switches.

Because of the current draw the relay points take the load instead of the contacts in the switch. You can take these relays apart and clean them and use a points file to make sure both surfaces are flat.

getting the door apart is no problem. You just have to slide the stainless strip out to reveal some of them.

Barry - Once again, great information. Like Tom, I suspect, our rear windows also operate grudgingly. I was assuming I'd have to replace the motors, etc. and a local "old school" mechanic suggested I check their lubrication first--just what you mentioned. As rear windows are typically opened-closed less frequently, they tend to bind up worse than the frequently used front windows on the doors. Apparently not a problem unique to Mark IIs. The same may be true of the "wind wings," especially on the less frequently used passenger side.
