Will changing the color to a different 1956-57 standard Mark 2 color greatly affect the value?

Not as far as I'm concerned. But then I'm not a purest.:)

Does it affect the value on GTO's?
I think as long as you go with an original color, you're ok.

Dave,

If you mean showing it, like entering it in an LCOC meet where the car is judged, you can change the color as long as it an authentic Mark II color, otherwise you will lose points.

On the Pontiac GTOs, the car commonly applies to the STOCK category if it has: factory color (or similar) appropriate for year. Base-coat/clear coat ok. OEM stripes/decals correct for year. Chrome, stainless, lenses & glass appears as factory. (more specifications apply to the engine, wheels, and chassis of course)

A non-factory color or color wrong for year, after market graphics, painted bumpers instead of chrome, etc goes in the MILD MOD category.

Unless you intend to show it as concours correct and are worried about points I'd say paint it to please YOU. It'll be in your driveway and your opinion counts the most! Besides they're so seldom seen no one will know anyway, they'll just know you have a nice ride.:)

The Car will know! Do you want to risk that?

it is YOUR car, you can do whatever you want to it :)

IF you are concerned with value or marketability of "your" car when you are done with the touches that you like, I would have to say that stock, OEM is always best for resale value ...
