Can anybody help me with the history of my car? What I do know is that I'm the 4th owner. The previous owner was Steve D'Ambrosia of the Portland Oregon area. He had it for about 13 to 14 years. In the box of junk that came with the car was the name plate with the name of Dr. John L. Gunter. He, I would assume was the original owner. Somewhere from the original owner to the second owner, the paint, and interior was completely changed. The car was originally deep green with light green leather seat biscuits and medium green leather seat bolsters. Now its light blue in color, cream color bolsters with light blue biscuits. Why would anybody go to that extent, let alone on a Mark ii. I can't find a hint of green on this car. I would almost pay to to find out why everything was changed. Steve says he has know idea who or why it was changed. When asked about the first 2 owners, Steve said that they were up there in the years and would probably be no help. The car has 59000 miles. Is it actual miles, who knows. The vin # is C5601531 05-1C2D-1012-11 11-60A. If anybody could help shed some light on my car, it would greatly appreciated
Dan

Why do women change hair color? Why change the color of the trim on your house? Cars were "freshened" all the time in the '50s. Not unusual at all.

The "why" doesn't matter at all if you don't show it and it only matters that it's an original color to the LCOC.

I wouldn't lose any sleep over it.:D

As long as you like the colors does it matter what anyone else thinks?

Well I'm not complaining. I actually do like the colors. My curiosity is just getting the best of me. I mean come on, were talking about a mark ii, not a chevy

What kind of "history" are you looking for????

Are you just asking to decode the numbers?

Just looking for people who owned it in the past. Might get lucky enough to talk to these people to learn more about the history of the car.

Good luck. Most DMV records are purged after 10 years.

Like Barry, I don't think you are going to have much luck about finding the chain of ownership of your car. The states just don't keep that information for an extended period of time. Let's say you were able to find the address of Dr. Gunter. Let's say Dr. Gunter was in his 40's or 50's when he purchased the car. Fast forward to 2009. Chances are Dr. Gunter is resting in peace somewhere. I know you have a lot of questions about your car, but I would not worry too much about it. Just enjoy.

d-bay..
I'm with you re the history part. It would be cool to know the chain that proceeded us. With my car I received a lot of info that I think is concise but there might be a hole or 3.

For what it's worth your car C5601531 is listed in the Mark II Encyclopedia as being originally sold from Saunders-Vincel, Inc. - Maplewood, MO. ( the only Mark II listed for them) I'm not sure how that meshes with the info that you already have. As the Encyclopedia lists the original owners alphabetically and not by number, one is left with scanning all the vin # to find the owner. I did this a few time and never found a listing to an owner of the car. As much as I'd love to have all these records be undisputed fact but I'm sure that's not the case. There was lots of "manual" stuff that went on in those days. I'm sure some stuff slipped through the cracks. Hope that helps some.

Hey Chuck, I appreciate you taking time out to see if you could find any history on my car. I'm glad to see that somebody gives a rats a$$ about there car, not just in the present, but in the past. In most conversations with fellow enthusiasts, it all begins with "where did you get the car from." Its all part of every one of OUR stories. Thanks again Chuck
