I have installed a new door check strap on my drivers side door. At the extreme open position though it "clicks" and locks into place.
The strap also draps the door slot so I am concluding that the roller is worn.
Does anyone have a good NOS drivers side door check roller mech for sale? It is a bear to remove...door panel and kick panel must be removed. Access panel on door removed then the roller mech can be felt (but not seen) and removed with four 5/16 bolts.

Keith,

I think your best bet is the Lincoln Farm.

I'd follow those instructions and then examine what you have. Post a picture of it and let us suggest a cure.

I got a repro one as well and its a bit stiff as well! I am going to try a bit of heavy grease on it. Must be a bit of a problem on these cars (broken check straps)

I found out my problem....my NOS check strap was incorrect. It looked exactly like the old broken one so I didn't lay one on the other. When I did compare them one on top of another, I saw that the New NOS was about an inch tighter in it's radius. So my mechanic welded and ground the original back to correct tolerances and it worked perfectly. Of course I spent hours taking this in and out and removing the roller and spring mechanism which was complete unnecessary.
The lesson here is to confirm and reconfirm all parts before installation.
