C5671002 is on Ebay now. It's not for the faint hearted as it needs everything, but it is a very early car.

Ok, I'm faint hearted. LOL
The Holiday book indicates the first production unit as C566 975. That would make this the 27th of production.
It's also the first car I've seen with Nylon.
Something odd here. This Number Plate shows #1002 with July build. The registry has #1003 as a July date too but shows the #1002 car with an August date. I guess that goes back to the discussion about PO sequence we had a few weeks ago.

Chuck,
This unit would be the 26th. There was no #1000 from what I hear. THe plate on 1002 clearly shows it was assembled on July 27, 1955 and was the first unit for the day.

My Bad, Nick...
Meant to say.... "Something odd here. This Number Plate shows #1002 with July build. The registry has #1003 as a July date too but shows the #1001 car with an August date. I guess that goes back to the discussion about PO sequence we had a few weeks ago."

Chuck,
1001 is owned by an LCOC in Ohio. It's been in the club for decades. I'll look up the info on it tonight.

I like the description part "The Good, The Bad, & The Ugly" LMAO " As the economy has it, the well ran dry" (Yup it's a Mark II ;) not for the faint hearted:D) But I have seen alot more spent on belly button cars as well.
The Good:
Complete engine,suspension ,and brake rebuild
The Bad:
The body was originally a Light Green:o A Green Mark II is better than none:p
The UGLY:
The interior is kinda,uh rude.
Other than that, if the price is right, and the rust situation looks not too bad (unless I'm blind and you guys see more than I do) it might be a good project.

The biggest thing I see is it needs a new interior and a fresh coat of paint.
Don't know about the light green, maybe if it was metalflake?:)

Ford says production starts at 1001 as did the Mustang, with a bunch more zeros in between. Things are not always as they were written. The subject of serial numbers was discussed at length with Bob Casey, Curator of the Henry Ford Transportation Collection over the first production Mustang in a recent car magazine. Someone had #242, or something silly, and claimed that it was the first legitimate "production" Mustang. Ford did exactly what they did with the introduction of the Mark II. They made many hundreds, if not thousands of Mustang "Introductory Units" that they sent out to sit on showroom floors, just like the 300 or so IUs sent out to Lincoln dealers all over the country.
I can't remember what was disputed about this document, but it should make for good discussion.
Here is a Ford document, found in the Benson Ford's files about the number of Mark IIs made. I am told by experts that this Ford-generated study is wrong. What is written is not automatically fact.
