I bought #1 on my wish list - a 1948 Lincoln Continental Cabriolet.

I've been wanting one of these for years. I guess I just needed a nudge.

A few facts:
Delivered new in 1948 to the US Embassy in Iran
Completely restored in the '80's
3-Speed Manual with Overdrive
V-12 Engine
New Top and Boot
Driven at least weekly

Congratulation Pat! You will be busy for some time...
Do you intend to replace the alternator with a generator?

I didn't list that. It's already been converted!

That's a great car, congratulations. What a great driver and parade car. Be careful you don't get Barry's bug now and start trying to collect the rest of the Continentals...:D

I'm very happy for you Pat. That's the way to go, a classic that's llike new, but with all the work done! With that car, you can sit in it in your garage and forget about any negative things that might occur...the war's over, it will always be 1946. Just think of all the opportunitties and good things we've received since then as Americans. I wish I could come and sit in it. A virtual time machine. As I mentioned to Rick, "well deserved" and it couldn't have found a nicer home!

Great thoughts, Don. For sure when I get frustrated working on one of my cars, I'll have a great place to sit and chill. Gotta get some Big Band CDs to set an appropriate ambiance in the garage.

congrats Pat... I bet she is not going to like leaving the palm trees for the cold of Ohio winter:D

Rick, I've got a heated garage and I'll put up some palm tree pictures.

I just got a driver's report on the delivery progress. They're in Oklahoma and have drawn a crowd of picture takers at each stop. As someone on CNN once said, that gave me "a thrill up my leg".

It should be here in 2 days.

The 48 LC was delivered today and did I ever get a surprise. It's in even better shape than the pictures showed. I figured that I would have a lot of work detailing the engine compartment (because the picture of it didn't look so good), well it's almost fully detailed, painted, decaled, etc.

The one "shock" that I got was the not-so-modern suspension and steering of a heavy antique car (remember it's a continuation of prewar production). I have a 1/4 mile gravel, hilly, winding, lumpy (can we still use that word?) driveway and I had to be very attentive driving it into the ranch.

I'm still thinking about Rick's comment about the car missing the palm trees. I don't think that will be a problem, because that will be completely offset by the color that the car has never seen before - GREEN!

Anyway she's sitting outside tonight (first time in a long-time) and tomorrow I'll clear the engines and tranny's out of a bay in my garage and have her under roof tomorrow night.

Congratulations!!! LC has to be Lincoln Continental, duh, right? W/O power steering those old cars need a lot of muscle to steer. Wonder why those steering wheels were so big. Have fun and show us pictures.

when I started my search for a Mark II I flew to Omaha, NE to look at one that was owned by a car collector. Over the phone the car sounded perfect...71k orig. miles...they guy had once owned over 60 cars. I went to look at it and it wasn't in the condition I was hoping for. The car hadn't had the oil changed in 10 years, although it did start and move...a lot more work than I wanted to tackle. But, he did have a '48 Cabriolet too...it was a shame...once a show car, there were now cats living in it. This guy had some amazing cars, all of which were going to waste. He had a '50's Mazerati, Jensen Healy, Porsche 912, a 60's Vetta (one of only 13 made, think Italian sports car...I can't even find a picture of one on the web) and a 48 Jag Convertible once owned by Cecil B Demille...all of these cars were under cheap plastic in an old barn covered with dust and filled with mice and cats! It was such a shame. That was 9 years ago and I often wonder what happened to all of those cars. The owner was in his 70's and not in good health.

the object with that suspension on an uneven gravel surface will be to keep it missing the palm trees :D

Congratulations on receiving it intact.
You'll end up with forearms like Popeye if you drive it with any frequency.:D
Enjoy!

Congrats and a very good choice! Since I like the Flatheads I have been eyeing one of them for a long time. I can't get over what some very fine examples are going for on Ebay, very afordable! I always liked the 41 but would take a later one as well.:)
