As I have mentioned, I have no manuals for my car.
I have ordered a "technical manual" from Books4Cars but it is backordered.
Are there other suppliers out there that I can order manuals from?
I noticed a CD is available with several items. Is this worth buying?
Thanks
Ian

Give this a try http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/1956-Lincoln-Continental-Mark-II-Repair-Shop-Manual-56_W0QQitemZ360182416374QQcmdZViewItemQQimsxZ20090 823?IMSfp=TL090823154002r9106
$49.00 on fleabay right now. Also on Rockauto.com they list a MarkII shop manual for sale for $28.79 Lincoln>1956>Mark II>Literature>repair manual. Listed as " 1956 LINCOLN MARK II 6.0L 368cid V8; Literature;Repair Manual They show a picture as well but it almost looks like a Lincoln manual.

Don,
I just bought and received this manual. It's not bad and is 324 pages so it's full of stuff. It's an obvious reprint of the real deal but set up for Continental mechanics at a dealership.
Upside - Lots of pictures, pretty good explainations and good data sheets in the back.
Downside - Almost every repair or re-build shown is shown with special Lincoln (I would assume) tools noted and numbered as if they were laying around in my garage. LOL

I too have that manual and it is a great source of information. However, one more shortcoming... it's solely 1956. If you have a 1957 there is no information on your Carter WCFB carb, paper cartridge air filter, etc. Otherwise excellent.

One thing I've never seen or recall seeing mentioned is an owner's manual similar to whats in the glovebox of a modern car. Surely something like this was provided in a car that expensive. Does anyone have one?

Yes. They come up on e-Pay every once in a while. I was given one at a Concours by one of the judges. He knew I was going to be at the show and brought it with him. It's a welcome addition to all things Mark II.

Barry, Is it easily identifiable as for the Mark II so I don't mess up and get one for a 56 Lincoln.

The Lincoln book used a different star on the cover.

Originals are quite expensive on ebay (one listed currently for $409). I found a reprint for $20 from Faxon. Nice to have while you search for an original.

When I bought my '56. I opened the glove box, and there was the original owner's manual in pristine condition...It's hard cover, and had the original owner's name printed in gold letters on the front.

You are very fortunate. I have an original set of all the other books but no manual. I'm about to take a chance on one that's $50 and I'm hoping its not for a "normal" 56. Is your car the deep grey? We may have twins.

Hi depmike-
Yes, mine is the deep grey also...A very nice color (I believe) for a Mark II.

This is obviously a reprint and not bound like the original but it is the owner's manual.

I was at the Glenmoor Gathering a few years ago when the head of the show's volunteer staff walked up to me and handed me an original owner's manual as a gift.

That was a nice gift :)
I have my original that came with the car and in the back I found the yellow warranty sheet (in the original cellaphane envelope) Typed with the Jacuzzi Bros'. name and the delivering dealer Oakland Motors.
I've heard some of you talk about info that can be obtained from the Benson (?) Museum. Original production orders and such. How does one go about that?

Call them, tell them you have a Mark II and that you'd like a copy of the Production Order for your car.

They have a minimal charge for the service. Have your serial number handy.
Have them copy the back, too. There are sometimes other notes.

Your very lucky your car is old enough. I contacted them and in the answer I got back they mentioned that if my car didnt fall within the serial number range listed, they wouldnt have the records of my car due to a fire in 1970, and alot of records were destroyed:(

Ok, I tried.
1. That department doesn't take any phone calls only take email and faxes. Email is: research.center@thehenryford.org
2. They are closed on Monday.
I've sent an email and I'll keep you posted.

Wow, just got a response. Not sure if it was auto-generated or not but it was fast and outlined the Vin#'s that were available (and mine seems to be). I'll fax them my $20 and see how that goes. (there's a fax number for CC purchases)

Silly people. They should know better than to call it a Lincoln Mark II.

Same response as what I got. 3348 is as new as they go for what they got.:(

Hi all, I purchased an actual 1956 owners manual that actually has the outside envelope. It says Continental Division, Ford Motor Company, Dearborn, Mi, then in the middle has "The Continental Mark II Owners Manual, lower right corner has the Continental star. Does anyone else have this?
Mine had the hard cover manual also, in great condition, but no owner's name in golden letters. Could this have been done by the owner? Or was it a dealer or factory thing?

Yes. It's the one that came with the car. Also along with came a hard cover book "The Continental Story".

Victor,
I'm pretty sure the owner's manual for 1957 was soft cover.
Phil,
Mine has the envelope too.
