What is original? I have 5 owners manuals that are hard bound. I thought that was the original. In the last week there were two venders selling paper back manuals, saying thay were originals. When I e-mailed one about the paper back, his reply was, " I do not understand your question". I think he just sold a $20 paper one for $100. A little help here please. Mark.

All I can tell you is mine is origional and hard bound. It is definitly buyer beware on ebay. I always get excited when I see an origional manual up for auction until I see it isn't hard bound. I could photocopy my own if I wanted loose leaf paper!

'56 Mark II owner's manuals were hardbound. '57's were soft cover. I guess at that point, they were trying to save money.

Thank you Nick. So they should be listed as a 1957 owners manual. I guess they did not have to print too many of those. Faxon sells they for $20. Mark.

True, but I think you can tell an original '57 from the reproduced Faxons. Jack was reproducing the '56 hardbounds back in the nineties and and also the envelope they came in. They were beautifully done and are an exact copy of the original '56.

Are there any differences in the information inside the 56 compared to the 57 manual?

I would doubt it as the differences were exclusively mechanical except for paint color, interior materials and a 120 mph speedometer instead of a 140. That was the only real visible difference without opening the hood.

The Mark II project had been cancelled quite awhile before the '57 Mark II became available, so I doubt that they were spending any unnecessary money for an updated manual when they cheapened their expenses for '57.

The Faxon Reproductions are very poor quality
Bad cropping of pages, cheaply done all-around.
All the information is there, but an extremely disappointing product.

I unfortunately purchased a copy before I found an original. Along with the overall poor quality, the photos in the reproductions are black and white while they are in color in the original. Bob
